Zika has finally arrived. The state of Florida has issued a severe warning to any and all pregnant travelers, including spouses or partners. Families are cancelling vacations, businesses are shutting down and many pedestrian women aren’t leaving the house without sweatshirts and hoodies (today the heat index was just under 100 degrees of pure bliss).
The Zika sweepstakes seems to only be a potential winner for Pharma. The rest of us, well we are losing.
The fear from Zika virus comes from the sloppy connection between it and microcephaly, a birth defect which causes children’s heads to be underdeveloped. But how strong is that connection in reality?
