A town in England has a little bit to be optimistic about this evening. Bedford’s anti-fluoridation campaign has halted a plan to fluoridate their borough’s public water. Members of Fluoride Free Bedford took their position to a town council meeting and came out on the winning side (for now).

After the meeting last week campaign coordinator Cynthia Bagchi said: “We may have to continue this fight to help other areas, because if we don’t help other areas to understand the truth and keep fluoride out of their areas, they will come back and try and persuade the councillors here to fluoridate again. We’ve made a wonderful start but we can’t rest on our laurels.”

A Bedford Borough Council spokesman said the executive will consider the recommendation from the overview and scrutiny committee that fluoridation in Bedford Borough is terminated, on Wednesday, June 15.
While this may not seem like a huge victory, it is the small victories which we should cherish as they pave the way to our ultimate freedom. These citizens have fought the good fight for themselves and their children. Public water supply is a right, not an option decided upon by government oversight. There is no good reason in the world to force fluoridation of our drinking and bathing water. There is no logic to be had in the idea that fluoridation is good for anyone. Even if that argument were assumed true, people should still have the natural right to untainted water supplies. Give people the option to fluoridate themselves and their families.
