Ursula Winterfeld, a researcher at the Swiss Teratogen Information Service and Lausanne University Hospital in Lausanne, Switzerland, found that pregnant women taking pregabalin, were six times more likely to having children born with birth defects. The study appeared in Neurology.com.
Pregabalin is a common drug used for pain in nerves and muscles. Pregabalin was originally marketed as Lyrica and is marketed under a number of brand names worldwide.
Researchers studied data based from seven different countries using 164 women who took the Pregabalin and 656 women who did not.
“The significant increase in the rate of malformations observed in this study presently implies that pregabalin prescription be avoided whenever possible during pregnancy. In patients of childbearing age, effective contraception should be advised when prescribing pregabalin, and its indication must be carefully re-examined in cases of desired or established unexpected pregnancy,” Winterfeld stated.
Other serious side effects include angioedema, drug misuse, and an increased suicide risk. It is moderately addictive both physically and psychologically. Translation: This stuff is pretty bad in general. Proceed with caution in the event a Doctor attempts to prescribe you Lyrica. Lyrica has been under fire ever since it came to market, many people reporting rashes and sexual dysfunction. Once again, pharma continues to invest millions into running massive ad campaigns to convince people this is a great solution.
Know what you are getting into, folks. Do your research and don’t always trust Doctors with this stuff.
